Assistant Professor of Mathematics
The Mathematics Department at Carthage College is seeking qualified candidates for a Lecturer in Mathematics starting Fall 2024. The position will be a multi-year renewable contract. The individual will be expected to teach undergraduate Mathematics courses, with special emphasis on supporting 1000-level foundational courses.
Job Description: Successful candidates will teach courses including precalculus, elementary statistics, and general education quantitative reasoning courses. Carthage faculty have recently developed alternatives for some of these standard courses; such innovation in course design and pedagogy is welcomed. Enthusiasm for addressing gaps in students’ mathematical preparation and working with students of all backgrounds is essential.
The expected teaching load is seven to eight four-credit courses per year; one of these may take place during our intensive January term. A course release for other significant work may be possible depending on institutional needs. Applicants should have a Ph.D. or M.S. in Mathematics or Statistics, and a strong commitment to excellence in undergraduate teaching and supporting a diverse student population. More information about the Department may be found at http://xbfwme.gudongjiaoyi.com/mathematics/.
Interested candidates should submit a single PDF file including a cover letter, curriculum vitae, statement of teaching philosophy, and the names and contact information of three professional references. Additional questions about this position can be directed to Dr. Haley Yaple math-search@gudongjiaoyi.com. Review of applications will begin immediately, and will cease once the position is filled.
