“Understanding different world religions allows us to better understand where others are coming from and how to respond to them.”

Why Carthage?

“I chose Carthage for its small class sizes, location, and the feel for a smaller, more personable campus atmosphere.”

Faculty mentors

“They make an effort to help you personally outside of class if there is something you are stuck on. I am a very hands-on learner, so my professors’ help in this way has been instrumental to learning.”

Favorite class

“I really love Issues in Living and Dying with Professor Sandra Bisciglia. It deals with the different death traditions and afterlife beliefs of religions around the world. It makes you think about how you are going to deal with aging, as well as how you will help others in your family when they can no longer make decisions for themselves.”

Toughest class

Aural Skills in the Music Department has been my toughest class so far at Carthage. It is a challenge for me to differentiate between pitches, but Professor Eduardo Garcia-Novelli worked with me outside of class until I started to understand the material.”

Internships or campus employment

“I work for Center for Faith and Spirituality and the Fine Arts Department as an interfaith coordinator and house manager, respectively. I love my CFS job because it really feels like a family, and the staff has encouraged me on my own faith journey. Being a house manager allows me to see the musical and theatrical events on campus and get credit for my music minor while getting paid at the same time. I also enjoy the responsibility as it will help me when I get out into the real world and have a full-time job.”

Favorite spot on campus

“My favorite spot on campus is the individual study rooms in the basement of the Hedberg Library. They are really nice when you need a silent space to study in for an upcoming test or exam!”

Favorite memory

Christmas Festival is such a great time and I absolutely love it! It is such an electric atmosphere and really makes you feel the magical holiday spirit.”
